Prof.Mohan Kameswaran, MS, FRCS, FAMS, DLO, a leading ENT surgeon in India is the recipient of the prestigious ‘Padmashri’ award from the President, Government of India in 2006. For his contribution to society he was also conferred ‘Indo-Australian Award for Meritorious Service’ by Indo-Australian Association, Chennai and ‘For the Sake of Honour Award’ by Esplanade Branch, Rotary Club of Madras, Chennai in 2006.
He graduated from Madras Medical College. He got his MS from Madras Medical College, Chennai and his Fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He has received several gold medals in his undergraduate and postgraduate days. Along with general ENT Surgical work, he has focused on Cochlear Implants, Laser Surgery, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and Skull Base Surgery. He is a pioneer in cochlear implant surgery and has the distinction of doing the first Contour Cochlear Implant & Freedom implant in the country. He is the first surgeon in India & South East Asia to have performed the Auditory Brain Stem Implant. He was also the first to introduce the KTP/532 laser in ENT surgery in India, this being the most advanced laser in the world. He has more than 75 publications in major international journals.
He is an outstanding teacher and has been duly recognized by the Royal College of Surgeons for which he is an overseas tutor. He has worked as a professor of ENT in King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. He is the first Indian ENT surgeon to have been invited as a Guest Faculty by the prestigious British Academy Conference in 2006. He has also conducted several workshops for the benefit of the Post Graduate students in ENT, including advanced techniques in ENT surgery. He also has to his credit a textbook on ‘Tropical Diseases in ENT’. He is a Doctor with a social consciousness & conducts free ENT camps in several parts of rural India. He has mentored ENT surgeons who hold positions of distinction in various parts of the country.
