SILENT MELODY PROJECT
is a project very dear to Dr.Mohan Kameswaran. It is an ongoing project conducted jointly by MERF and Rotary Club Esplanade(R.I.District- 3230). The camp targets students of Corporation Schools of Chennai.It is held every Saturday at MERF-ISH.During this camp the complete Audiological,Speech and ENT  assessments are made.Recommendations are given and follow up is advised to every student.So far 140 children have been screened and the costs are completely borne by MERF. The mission is to eradicate “Hearing Disability in Children”

SILENT MELODY CHARITABLE TRUST
A solemn function was held on June07, 2007 at Adyar Park Sheraton to mark the launch of The Silent Melody Charitable Trust .This Trust has been formed with Dr.Mohan Kameswaran as the Managing Trustee and Rtn.K.J.Chandran of Rotary Club Madras Esplanade as the Chairman.
The Silent Melody Charitable Trust is an extension of the Silent Melody Project. To build up a database for children born with hearing impairment MERF and MERF ISH volunteered their services to the Neonatal Hearing Screening Project. The equipment used for screening is the OTO ACOUSTIC EQUIPMENT SCREENER (OAE) and was a generous donation from Rotary Club Madras Esplanade.On this auspicious launch, the Chief Guest,Mr.S.Nagarajan,COO of 24/7, donated a vehicle to transport this equipment.
The Silent Melody Charitable Trust looks forward to a fulfilling future.

“THERE IS SO MUCH TO HEAR”
This is another ambitious project conducted and sponsored by Madras ENT Research Foundation. It is a joint venture between MERF-ISH & Lions Club International.This is a neonatal screening programme in cooperation with Corporation Maternity Hospitals of Chennai.Presently,every Monday & Thursday an audiologist from MERF-ISH is deputed to Saidapet Corporation Maternity Hospital from 2 p.m. to 3.30p.m.The purpose is early diagnosis and rehabilitation.

SPEECH AND HEARING WEEK 2006-Dec 7-Dec14
A free Speech and Hearing Camp was held on Dec7, 2006at MERF-ISH with volunteers from Rotary Club Esplanade.Our students,interns and all staff members participated.A complete Audiological,ENT AND Speech evaluation was conducted.Recommendations and follow up advice were given.Members of the public greatly benefited and thus made the Camp a huge success. MERF ISH Staff & Students conducted a free Speech & Hearing camp at St.Ebbas School Mylapore on Dec 5th 2007 They did a complete Audiological, ENT&Speech Evaluation For about 100 Students. Recommendation &follow up Advice was given. The Headmistress thanked MERF ISH for the yeomen service, concern and Interest shown by them.



ENT CAMPS
Pattukottai –MERF is deeply involved in this project since 1999. It is organized by the ENT hospital at Pattukottai.   This is held once a month and is of invaluable service to the population in and around Pattukottai. An ENT surgeon and an Audiologist from MERF attend this diagnostic camp and provide follow up advice, referrals and hearing aid fittings.

Chennai – MERF has conducted free camps organised by Lions Club, Podaturpet, since 2000.

Elapakkam - The Shiva Sakthi Sai Charitable Trust conducts regular, free medical camps at this adopted village. This invaluable service caters to the rural population and the MERF deputes an ENT surgeon and an Audiologist to conduct ENT screening camps at this village. Follow up advice, medicines and referrals are given to the needy. These camps were conducted on 23rdNovember, 2006 and 7th January, 2007. This is an ongoing service provided by the MERF.

Chennai – MERF MERF Conducted free camp organized by ADYAR &SHASTHRI NAGAR Welfare Association on 02.12.2007.

Cochlear Implant Awareness Programme
National
MERF commenced this programme in 2003. The State of Tamil Nadu is the primary target. So far this programme has successfully covered schools in Chennai. The technology of Cochlear Implant has also been introduced to the people of Puducherry, Madurai, Salem, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Pudukottai, Theni. In Andhra Pradesh, Nellore has also been included in this programme. CIEP-MERF conducted Cochlear Implant Education program in Pond cherry on 9.12.07 to create awareness about Cochlear Implant and Early Detection &Intervention of Hearing Impairment.

International
This programme, organized by MERF, has been successfully conducted in Colombo and Kandy, Sri Lanka. MERF also provides Audiological support for Cochlear Implant Clinics in Sri Lanka.
